There's a version of skincare that looks like this: cleanser, toner, essence, serum, eye cream, moisturiser, face oil, SPF, exfoliant twice a week, sheet mask on Sundays. Ten products. Twenty minutes. A drawer that looks like a pharmacy shelf.
And it doesn't work.
Not because the products are bad — some of them are excellent. But because layering that many actives and formulas on top of each other creates a skin environment that's about as predictable as a group chat with your entire extended family.
The science bit (we'll keep it short)
Your skin has a barrier — the stratum corneum — and its job is to keep good things in and bad things out. When you overload it with products, you're not helping it do that job. You're potentially disrupting the pH, interfering with how actives are absorbed, and introducing so many variables that when something goes wrong (and eventually, something goes wrong), you have no idea what caused it.
More products also means more potential irritants, more fragrances, more preservatives. Sensitive skin, in particular, tends to get worse as routines get longer.
What actually happens when you strip back
We hear this from customers constantly: they came to BARESKIN after months of escalating routines that weren't working, went back to basics — cleanser, serum, moisturiser, SPF — and their skin calmed down within two weeks.
Not because the new products were magic. Because their skin finally had room to breathe and do what it's designed to do.
The routine we'd actually recommend
Morning: Daily Wash → Peptide Serum or Caffeine Concentrate → Peptide Day Cream → SPF Guard. Done in five minutes.
Evening: Makeup Remover → Balance Toner or Hydra Toner → Barrier Cream or Collagen Barrier Restore Cream.
That's it. Give it two weeks. You might be surprised.
Simplicity isn't a compromise. For most people, it's the upgrade.
